講義内容
In one short novel Dickens wrote a beautiful and heart-warming tale of the redemption of the miser Scrooge, created the image of an ideal Christmas, and portrayed the vitality and flaws of Victorian London. As we approach winter, let's investigate the importance of Christmas as a midwinter festival, and see if Dickens's moral tale is still relevant to modern society. After our introductory class, please read the relevant chapter ahead of each class, and bring any queries or ideas you have to share. Then together we can discuss the points of linguistic, literary and cultural interest that arise from Dickens's story.

講師紹介
専攻 ： 英文学・比較文学オックスフォード大学卒業、ロンドン大学東洋アフリカ学院修士課程修了。1999年から成城大学で英文学、英語を教える。円地文子の文学、二言語主義（バイリンガリズム）についての論考を公刊。現在は、英語の詩や、＜文学と都市＞をテーマにした研究をしている。
