SGE Supports with Coordination for the Government of the Philippine’s Visit to Japan

The Seijo University International Research Center for Sport and Gender Equality (SGE) has been commissioned by the Japan Sports Agency for the "Post Sports for Tomorrow Promotion Project" (Actions on Sports: Gender Equality) in 2024.This project aims to promote gender equality in sports across Japan and the 10 ASEAN countries and SGE assists in the information sharing process as well as offering support and research tailored to the gender issues of each ASEAN country.

The Philippine Sports Commission (PSC), our counterpart in the Philippines, visited Japan to have meetings and site visits to learn about Japan's initiatives in women’s sports and safe sports. SGE provided support in the coordination of this visit as part of the project.

The Philippines has already made significant strides in promoting gender equality and safe sports in their country. This year, the Philippines has focused particularly on ‘promoting female leadership’ and ‘collecting gender-specific data’ to include those themes in their policies and implement initiatives.

During the visit, the delegation conducted site visits and meetings at several key institutions which included: Nippon Sport Science University, Japan Olympic Museum, Japan Sport Association (JSPO), as well as SGE.

During the visit to the Japan Olympic Museum, the delegation observed the exhibition as a reference - for the construction of a similar museum currently under consideration in the Philippines.

At the meeting with JSPO, the delegation received information about JSPO’s initiatives which included "promoting women’s sports," the "No! Sports Harassment" campaign, and the "Active Child Program".

Abigail Marie Rivera, Project Development Officer at the Philippine Sports Commission commented on the meeting with JSPO:

"The initiatives at JSPO were very informative. As the PSC, we are now confident that our approach has been on the right track, but we also realise there is still much work to be done. Furthermore, we learned that it is important to collaborate with other organisations."
