The International Research Centre for Sport and Gender Equality (SGE) of the Seijo University has been selected as a contractor for the Japan Sports Agency's ‘Formation of the Foundations for Promoting International Policies on Sport in the Project for Formation of the Foundations for International Development of Sport: Implementation of the Agreements of the Intergovernmental Meeting Type B (FY2025)’. This is the third consecutive year that SGE has been selected for this project.
As part of the implementation of the agreement reached at the ASEAN Plus Japan Ministerial Meeting on Sports, this project is being carried out to promote gender equality, one of the designated priority areas. It serves as an initiative to support the development of sports policies that incorporate a gender perspective within the ASEAN member states."
In this fiscal year, SGE will provide monitoring support to the ASEAN member states and organize a joint workshop to assist governments in integrating a gender perspective into their mid-to-long-term sport policy strategies. SGE will also conduct field research in Thailand, Singapore, and Lao PDR to identify obstacles to achieving gender equality. Additionally, SGE will enhance its efforts to share information about its initiatives in the ASEAN member states and the experiences of women and girls in Southeast Asia with a global audience.
Through implementing this project, SGE will expand the value of international cooperation through sport in terms of gender equality, collaborating with various stakeholders in the ASEAN region. SGE will contribute to realize a society where gender equality and diversity are recognized.
Message from the Project Leader
Aya Noguchi, Deputy Director of SGE (Project Leader)
SGE is pleased to be continuously involved in this project. We are committed to executing this project with sincerity and dedication, ensuring that we meet the expectations of the ASEAN member states.
In FY2025, we aim to deliver more tangible outcomes by integrating gender mainstreaming into the mid- to long-term strategies of each country's sports policies. We are committed to advancing gender-responsive policymaking while respecting the context of each member state, guided by mutual trust.
We will also enhance our public relations efforts by sharing our activities through international conferences, highlighting mutual cooperation between the ASEAN member states and Japan, and contributing to international development through sport.
