講義内容

We will read and discuss Josephine Tey's mystery, The Singing Sands. Tey is one of the Golden Age detective fiction writers; not as well known as Agatha Christie, but as gifted in devising clever and suspenseful plots. In addition to the enjoyment of solving its central mystery The Singing Sands offers the incidental pleasures of discussing topics such as the history of detective fiction, why so many of its acknowledged geniuses are women, detective fiction’s unexpected insights into social change, Shangri-La, and spirit of place.
