Themes & Objectives

In globalization, the global shapes the local. This interface between globalization and the local produces sociocultural asymmetry and divisions. However, some people have exercised spatial and psychosocial resilience to transcend national borders and other types of boundary. This symposium explores the practices of artists who have accomplished this feat. The speakers will discuss both specific cases and theoretical perspectives concerning artists who lived transnational lives, questioned the robustness of nation states’ boundaries, and forged more fluid identities.
Keywords: Transnational, nation state, culture, body

In this symposium, we would like to explore the gap between globalization and local subjects through arts, with particular focus on the transnational people who take action with their fluid/flexible identities beyond borders. We also aim to discuss the new phase of the term, 'glocalization,' through their practices.
