Faculty of Economics ( >>more )

The Faculty of Economics was founded in the same year as Seijo University, and we celebrated our 50th anniversary in 2000. Our education principle, in line with the founding philosophy of the University, is to encourage the individuality and self-discipline of our students, by retaining small-classes. Through close discourse between teachers and students, we aim to train individuals of practical abilities and deep professional knowledge who appreciate their chosen field of study is derived from human interaction.

Whilst maintaining these traditions, we have continuously updated our curriculum to make the Faculty reflect the changing needs of students. In 2003 the language teaching curriculum was widened to give more choice. Second-year students can now choose from a range of English classes, and first-and-second-year students can learn Chinese in addition to French and German as a second foreign language. Students are also offered a wider range of law-related courses.

21st century Japan faces an ageing society and globalization, both on a scale never experienced before. Within this context, a well-balanced knowledge of economic society and theory provides a starting point. Our students must also acquire the skills to question the significance of economic society, analyze it, and suggest appropriate reforms. We train our students to elucidate and communicate problems and their solutions to the wider community.

To pursue this flexible intellect, students must have a broader perspective on, and intellectual curiosity about, economic society and its changing environment. Both economics and theory of business administration are not isolated academic disciplines; they exist within society and its institutions. By developing a critical awareness toward mankind's well-being (its diverse cultures, social systems and basic values), the Faculty is committed to the advancement of knowledge in each individual economic field.( << Back )
